“me must become we”

Nitsan Michaeli

Nitsan Michaeli Nitsan was born in Israel in 1955 and started Tai Chi in India in 1980. He continued his studies in Japan in 1983, studying with a Chen style Master. In 1984 he started working and studying with Assi Ben-Porat, a student of John Kells, in Tel Aviv. In 1985 Nitsan was accepted as a student of John Kells, whom he visits yearly.

Nitsan has developed a remarkable body of work – exercises to be practised with a partner – aimed at the development of a good root with the earth, and through that root, a good connexion with others and with life itself.

I have known Nitsan since 1985 and he is a dear friend. Since leaving the UK for Israel the quality and depth of Nitsan's work has been generously revealed to me and I now study with him twice weekly. Nitsan's work is challenging because it demands egolessness (nakedness), and because it cannot be practised alone. It's approach to yielding has nothing to do with avoidance or not being there. It develops a firm, still and accepting presence that makes thinking and decision making not only unnecessary, but an obstacle to connexion. The only decision one need make is whether to be present or not, and ultimately this is not a decision at all.
